93% of palm oil imported into Europe is Certified Sustainable by independent organisations such as Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO). The goal is to reduce the negative impacts of palm oil production on deforestation, bio diversities and local communities.
While imports of sustainable palm oil into Europe have soared from 33% in 2012 to 93% in 2021, deforestation in Malaysia has fallen to its lowest level since 2017*. With 1.9 million indigenous trees planted in Sabah and Sarawak over the past two years alone, local producers are committing to being carbon neutral by 2050, with sustainability at the forefront of the largest producers of palm oil.
